June 20, 2025 (MLN): In a decisive move to eradicate the heinous market of counterfeit medicines in Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the concerned authorities to incorporate the latest technology into the country’s pharmaceutical systems.

Chairing a meeting on the affairs of the Ministry of National Health in Islamabad, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to encourage pharmaceutical companies to seek accreditation from the World Health Organization (WHO).

He noted that such accreditation would not only improve the standards of Pakistani medicines but also enhance opportunities for their export, as per the press release issued.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister also ordered the presentation of a roadmap for collaboration between welfare organizations and the private sector to provide improved medical facilities in the federal capital.

He stressed that ensuring the best possible healthcare for the general public remains the government’s topmost priority.

Furthermore, he instructed the relevant authorities to conduct third-party validation of medical colleges to guarantee the provision of quality education.

The Prime Minister made it clear that no compromise would be tolerated regarding the standard of medical education and declared that political interference in the ongoing health sector reforms would not be accepted.

The meeting also included a briefing on the constraints hindering progress in the health sector, along with recommendations for sustainable solutions.

It was informed that the entire process for the registration of medicines and medical equipment will be fully digitalized by the end of next month.

Additionally, officials shared that plans are underway to integrate newly established basic health units and regional blood centers into the mainstream healthcare system.

Efforts are also being made to bring the Isolation Hospital and Infections Treatment Center in Islamabad into the fold, with support from the affluent segment of society.
