PM Shehbaz reaffirms resolve to strengthen Pakistan-China strategic partnership

August 06, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan and China reiterated their commitment to further deepening their all-weather strategic partnership, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif emphasising the need to broaden bilateral engagement beyond government-to-government channels.

The premier made these remarks during a meeting with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, who called on him in Islamabad on Thursday, said a press release issued.

The two sides reviewed the positive trajectory of bilateral relations, with the Prime Minister stressing the importance of expanding people-to-people contacts alongside exchanges between political parties and parliaments of the two countries.

During the meeting, the Ambassador delivered a letter from Chinese President Xi Jinping conveying appreciation for the Prime Minister's earlier message marking the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China.

The two sides also discussed matters pertaining to bilateral cooperation and regional issues of shared interest.
