April 9, 2026 (MLN): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif portrayed
Pakistan’s recent diplomatic intervention as a defining chapter in the
country’s history, while framing it as a moment when coordinated leadership and
national unity helped defuse a potentially dangerous regional crisis.
Speaking at a federal cabinet meeting, the prime minister
said Pakistan had stepped into a pivotal role at a critical time, helping to
ease tensions that had threatened to spiral into a wider conflict involving
multiple countries.
He credited the outcome to a combination of state-level
coordination, public support, and a commitment to peace among Muslim nations,
APP reported.
According to Shehbaz Sharif, the situation, tense for weeks has
now entered a temporary lull, with a two-week pause in hostilities offering
hope for a longer-term ceasefire. He stressed that this window should be used
to pursue lasting stability rather than allow tensions to resurface.
Highlighting internal cohesion, the premier pointed to close
collaboration between civilian authorities and the military leadership as a key
factor in the diplomatic breakthrough. He noted that such unity reflected a
shared resolve to prevent divisions among countries with deep cultural and
religious ties.
Shehbaz Sharif also commended Ishaq Dar and the Foreign
Office for sustained diplomatic engagement, while acknowledging the role of Asim
Munir in maintaining high-level international contacts aimed at de-escalation.
The prime minister thanked global leaders, including Masoud
Pezeshkian and Donald Trump, for responding positively to Pakistan’s outreach.
He also recognized the support of key regional partners such as Saudi Arabia,
Qatar, Türkiye, and China in backing peace efforts.
Reaffirming Islamabad’s ties with Riyadh, Shehbaz Sharif
referenced his recent discussions with Mohammed bin Salman, reiterating
solidarity following attacks on Saudi energy facilities and emphasizing
continued cooperation between the two countries.
Looking ahead, he revealed that delegations from both
Washington and Tehran are expected to visit Pakistan soon to sustain diplomatic
momentum and explore pathways toward a durable resolution.
Beyond foreign policy, the prime minister linked the
diplomatic success to broader governance efforts, noting that economic
challenges particularly inflation had been managed through coordinated policy
actions aimed at protecting citizens.
He also acknowledged the backing of key political figures,
including Asif Ali Zardari, Nawaz Sharif, and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, as well
as coalition partners and provincial leaders.
Meanwhile, major business and political stakeholders echoed the sentiment.
The Korangi Association of Trade and Industry hailed the
government’s role in helping secure a ceasefire linked to US–Iran tensions,
calling it a significant diplomatic achievement. Lawmakers in the Senate of
Pakistan also praised the leadership across party lines, describing the effort
as a historic step that enhanced Pakistan’s standing globally.
Shehbaz Sharif
concluded by asserting that the achievement belonged to the entire nation,
saying Pakistan had emerged with renewed credibility and respect on the
international stage.
