November
06, 2026 (MLN): Prime
Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved the modernization of the Trade Development
Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), aimed at boosting exports, widening the reach of
Pakistani products in global markets and bringing local industries, including
small and medium enterprises (SMEs), in line with export standards.
The approval came at a
high-level meeting he chaired in Islamabad, said a press release issued.
The PM observed that
better access to foreign markets for locally made goods is central to higher
exports, and that an upgraded TDAP would help make that possible.
He said a full ecosystem
covering the entire value chain would be built for agricultural exports.
He also directed TDAP to
recruit well-trained staff through a transparent, merit-based process, adding
that institutional reform can only succeed when career progression is tied to
meeting targets and performance.
The PM further ordered the
hiring of a reputable private audit firm to carry out a performance and
financial audit of the Authority.
Noting Pakistan’s large
export potential and favourable geographical location, he said the government
is supporting industries and SMEs so they can raise exports and make full use
of these advantages.
The meeting was briefed on
a reform package to turn TDAP into a modern, internationally benchmarked trade
promotion body.
A twelve-month phased plan
covering approval, design, implementation and independent evaluation was also
presented for rolling out the reforms.
The PM directed that the
reforms be completed and implemented by the middle of next year.
