PM Shehbaz Sharif departs Kyrgyzstan after key bilateral talks

September 2, 2026 (MLN): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif departed for Pakistan on Wednesday after completing his three-day official visit to Kyrgyzstan, where he held high-level talks with President Sadyr Nurgozhoevich Japarov and witnessed the signing of an agreement to enhance bilateral trade to $200 million within the next two years.

During the visit, Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan signed an agreement aimed at increasing bilateral trade from the current level of around $16m to $200m over the next two years.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and the Kyrgyz Foreign Minister signed and exchanged the agreement in Bishkek in the presence of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Japarov.

The Prime Minister stressed the need for concrete steps to translate the strong and fraternal ties between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan into greater trade and economic cooperation.

President Japarov said the two sides also agreed on a package of bilateral agreements covering trade, investment, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, energy, tourism and the digital economy.

The Kyrgyz President highlighted the importance of transport and logistics cooperation, noting that Pakistan’s seaports could provide Kyrgyzstan access to South Asian and global markets, while Kyrgyzstan could serve as a bridge connecting Pakistan with Central Asia and the wider Eurasian region.
