PKR trades flat versus USD

February 24, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) posted a marginal gain against the US dollar in Tuesday’s interbank trading, appreciating by 2.83 paisa to close at 279.52 per dollar, compared with the previous session’s close of 279.55.

During the session, the local currency touched an intraday high (bid) of 279.55 and a low (ask) of 279.50.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 280.40 for buying and 280.55 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee showed a broadly positive trend. It strengthened by 1.25 rupees, or 0.38%, versus the euro to settle at 329.19, compared to 330.44 a day earlier.

The local unit also gained 1.34 rupees, or 0.35%, against the British pound to close at 376.59 from 377.93 in the previous session.

Similarly, the rupee advanced 1.60 rupees, or 0.44%, against the Swiss franc to end at 360.37.

Against the Japanese yen, it improved by 1.78 paisa, or 0.98%, closing at 1.7900 compared to 1.8078 previously.

However, the rupee slipped against the Chinese yuan, weakening by 11.10 paisa, or 0.27%, to finish at 40.58 versus 40.46 a day earlier.

Meanwhile, it edged up 1.55 paisa, or 0.02%, against the Saudi riyal to 74.51, and gained 0.87 paisa, or 0.01%, against the UAE dirham to close at 76.10.

On a broader scale, the rupee has appreciated by 4.24 rupees, or 1.52%, against the US dollar so far in the current fiscal year. On a calendar-year basis, it has gained 59.99 paisa, or 0.21%.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer Rates (KIBOR) rose slightly by 1 basis point, settling at 10.34% and 10.59%, respectively.
