PKR strengthens to Rs277.72 against USD

August 06, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee posted a marginal gain against the US dollar in the interbank market on Thursday, appreciating by 2.90 paisa to close at Rs277.72 per dollar, compared with the previous closing level of Rs277.75.

During the trading session, the local currency touched an intraday high of Rs277.75 and a low of Rs277.70 against the greenback.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at Rs278.20 for buying and Rs278.80 for selling.

Among other major currencies, the rupee weakened by 13.32 paisa (0.04%) against the euro to settle at Rs320.45.

Against the British pound, however, the local unit gained 3.90 paisa (0.01%), ending the session at Rs373.69, compared with Rs373.73 a day earlier.

The rupee also lost 19.71 paisa (0.06%) versus the Swiss franc, closing at Rs343.08.

Meanwhile, it strengthened by 0.03 paisa (0.02%) against the Japanese yen to Rs1.7592, compared with Rs1.7595 in the previous session.

Against the Chinese yuan, the rupee recorded a marginal improvement of 0.16 paisa, closing at Rs41.15.

The local currency also advanced against regional currencies, gaining 0.37 paisa (0.01%) against the Saudi riyal to Rs73.95, while appreciating 0.59 paisa (0.01%) against the UAE dirham to Rs75.62.

So far in the current fiscal year, the rupee has strengthened by 43.86 paisa (0.16%) against the US dollar. On a calendar-year basis, it has gained Rs2.40, reflecting an appreciation of 0.86%.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates edged up by 1 basis point to 11.51% and 11.76%, respectively.
