PKR strengthens to 277.2 against USD

September 23, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee strengthened marginally against the US dollar in the interbank market on Wednesday, gaining 0.93 paisa to close at PKR 277.20 per dollar, compared with Tuesday’s closing rate of PKR 277.21.

During the session, the rupee traded between an intraday high (bid) of PKR 277.25 and a low (ask) of PKR 277.20.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 277.70 for buying and PKR 277.25 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee appreciated 45.42 paisa or 0.14% against the Euro, closing at PKR 316.58 versus PKR 317.04 a day earlier.

The local currency gained 88.56 paisa or 0.24% against the British Pound, settling at PKR 368.82 compared with PKR 369.71 in the previous session.

Against the Swiss Franc, the rupee strengthened by 21.62 paisa or 0.06% to close at PKR 336.97.

The rupee also appreciated 0.10 paisa or 0.06% against the Japanese Yen, closing at 1.7566 compared with 1.7576 a day earlier.

Against the Chinese Yuan, the local unit gained 2.61 paisa or 0.06% to settle at 41.34 versus 41.36 in the previous session.

Meanwhile, the rupee weakened slightly against the Saudi Riyal, losing 0.34 paisa to close at 73.82. Against the UAE Dirham, it depreciated by 0.15 paisa to settle at 75.48.

On a cumulative basis, the rupee has appreciated 95.69 paisa or 0.35% against the US dollar during the current fiscal year, while it has gained Rs2.92 or 1.05% so far in the current calendar year.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates edged down by 1 basis point to 11.71% and 11.96%, respectively.
