PKR strengthens to 276.9 against USD

October 19, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee strengthened marginally against the US dollar in the interbank market on Monday, gaining 0.93 paisa to close at PKR 276.90, compared with the previous session's closing rate of PKR 276.91.

During the trading session, the dollar recorded an intraday high bid of PKR 277.00 and a low ask of PKR 276.90.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 277.25 for buying and PKR 279.75 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the local currency posted mixed movements. The rupee appreciated by 91.03 paisa, or 0.29%, against the euro, which closed at PKR 310.42 compared with PKR 311.33 in the previous session.

However, the rupee weakened by 2.92 paisa against the British pound, closing at PKR 368.88 versus PKR 368.85 a day earlier. It also depreciated by 2.95 paisa against the Swiss franc to settle at PKR 335.80.

Against the Japanese yen, the rupee gained 0.10 paisa, or 0.06%, to close at PKR 1.7512, compared with PKR 1.7522 in the preceding session.

Meanwhile, the local currency declined by 3.02 paisa, or 0.07%, against the Chinese yuan, closing at PKR 41.44 compared with PKR 41.41 previously.

The rupee also lost 0.15 paisa against the Saudi riyal to settle at PKR 73.79, while gaining 0.66 paisa against the UAE dirham to close at PKR 75.39.

Since the beginning of the current fiscal year, the rupee has appreciated by PKR 1.26, or 0.45%, against the US dollar. Its cumulative gain against the greenback during the current calendar year has reached PKR 3.22, or 1.16%.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer Rates (KIBOR) increased by 1 basis point each, reaching 12.19% and 12.44%, respectively.
