PKR strengthens slightly to 277.25 per USD

September 18, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) edged up against the US dollar during Friday’s interbank trading session, settling at PKR 277.25 per USD compared to the previous close of PKR 277.26.

The currency traded within a narrow range during the session, recording an intraday high bid of 277.35 and a low ask of 277.25.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 277.25 for buying and PKR 278.30 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the PKR showed mixed performance. It weakened by 20.91 paisa or 0.07% against the Euro to close at 318.27, compared to 318.06 previously.

The local unit strengthened by 54.15 paisa or 0.15% against the British Pound, closing at 370.56 versus 371.10 a day earlier.

Meanwhile, the PKR depreciated by 12.92 paisa or 0.04% against the Swiss Franc to settle at 336.10.

Against the Japanese Yen, the rupee gained 2.27 paisa or 1.28%, closing at 1.7567 compared to 1.7794 in the previous session.

The PKR weakened by 6.25 paisa or 0.15% against the Chinese Yuan, settling at 41.39 versus 41.33 a day earlier.

Against regional currencies, the rupee appreciated by 0.10 paisa against the Saudi Riyal to close at 73.81, while it gained 1.23 paisa or 0.02% against the UAE Dirham to settle at 75.48.

On a fiscal-year-to-date basis, the PKR has appreciated by 90.92 paisa or 0.33% against the US dollar, while its calendar-year-to-date gain stands at Rs2.87 or 1.04%.

In the money market, the benchmark 6-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates edged down by 2 basis points to 11.71% and 11.96%, respectively.
