PKR strengthens marginally against USD

October 06, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee edged up against the US dollar in the interbank market on Tuesday, closing at PKR 277.05 per dollar compared with the previous session’s close of PKR 277.06.

During the session, the rupee traded within a range of 277.10 to 277.05 per dollar.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 277.50 for buying and PKR 280.00 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the local currency weakened by 69.69 paisa, or 0.22%, against the euro, settling at PKR 311.42 from 310.73. It also fell 21.03 paisa against the British pound to close at PKR 366.78 compared with 366.57 previously.

The rupee, however, gained Rs1.14, or 0.34%, against the Swiss franc, closing at PKR 333.06.

Against the Japanese yen, the local unit appreciated 0.30 paisa, or 0.17%, to close at PKR 1.7517 from 1.7547 a day earlier.

The rupee strengthened 0.12 paisa against the Chinese yuan, closing at PKR 41.32.

Against the Saudi riyal, the local currency weakened 1.15 paisa to PKR 73.81, while it gained 0.03 paisa against the UAE dirham to close at PKR 75.44.

On a cumulative basis, the rupee has strengthened Rs1.11, or 0.40%, against the US dollar during the current fiscal year, while its appreciation since the start of the calendar year stands at Rs3.07, or 1.11%.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates remained unchanged at 12.14% and 12.39%, respectively.
