PKR strengthens against USD for 210th consecutive session

August 03, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee posted a marginal gain against the US dollar in the interbank market on Monday, strengthening by 3.04 paisa to close at Rs277.77 per dollar, compared with the previous session's closing level of Rs277.80.

The latest advance marked the 210th consecutive session of appreciation against the greenback, with the rupee cumulatively gaining Rs3.6518, or 1.31%, over the period.

During the trading session, the local currency moved within a range of Rs277.75 at its strongest level and Rs277.95 at its weakest.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at Rs278.60 for buying and Rs278.80 for selling.

Among other major currencies, the rupee weakened against the euro, losing 31.22 paisa to settle at Rs320.09, compared with Rs319.78 in the previous session.

The local unit also declined against the British pound, falling 23.70 paisa to close at Rs373.69, versus Rs373.45 a day earlier.

Against the Japanese yen, the rupee depreciated by 3.60 paisa, ending the session at Rs1.7695 compared with Rs1.7335 previously.

On the other hand, the rupee strengthened against several regional and international currencies.

It appreciated by 39.93 paisa against the Swiss franc to Rs343.61, gained 3.84 paisa against the Chinese yuan to Rs41.13, advanced 1.60 paisa against the Saudi riyal to Rs73.97, and added 0.83 paisa against the UAE dirham to close at Rs75.63.

So far in FY27, the rupee has appreciated by 38.82 paisa (0.14%) against the US dollar. On a calendar-year basis, it has gained Rs2.35, reflecting an appreciation of 0.85%.

Meanwhile, in the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates eased by 4 basis points to 11.49% and 11.74%, respectively.
