PKR strengthens 3.25 paisa vs USD

April 01, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) edged up by 3.25 paisa, or 0.01%, against the US dollar in Wednesday’s interbank session, closing at PKR 279.12 per USD, compared to the previous close of 279.15.

During the day, the currency touched an intraday high of 279.20 (bid) and a low of 279.10 (ask).

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 279.50 for buying and 280.25 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee weakened, losing 3.34 rupees (1.04%) against the euro to close at 323.47 from 320.13, and dropping 1.87 rupees (0.51%) against the British pound to 370.62 from 368.75.

The local unit also fell 2.53 rupees (0.72%) against the Swiss franc to end at 351.52, and declined 0.96 paisa (0.55%) against the Japanese yen to 1.7585 from 1.7489.

Meanwhile, the PKR depreciated 17.57 paisa (0.43%) against the Chinese yuan, closing at 40.59 from 40.41.

However, the rupee gained slightly against regional currencies, rising 3.44 paisa (0.05%) versus the Saudi Riyal to 74.36, and 0.89 paisa (0.01%) against the UAE Dirham to 76.00.

Since the start of the current fiscal year, the PKR has appreciated 4.64 rupees (1.66%) against the US dollar, while it has gained 1.00 rupee (0.36%) so far this calendar year.

In the money market, benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched up by 1 basis point to 11.35% and 11.60%, respectively.
