PKR stays on upward path against USD

June 30, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee extended its appreciating trend against the US dollar, gaining 1.14 paisa in Tuesday's interbank session to close at PKR 278.16 per USD, compared to the previous session's closing of PKR 278.17.

During the session, the currency moved between an intraday high (bid) of 278.30 and a low (ask) of 278.15.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 278.25 for buying and PKR 279.20 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee posted a mixed performance. It gained 31.91 paisa, or 0.10%, against the Euro to close at 316.92 versus the previous 317.24.

Against the British Pound, the rupee shed 40.21 paisa, or 0.11%, settling at 368.02 compared to 367.62 a day earlier.

The local unit strengthened by 35.41 paisa, or 0.10%, against the Swiss Franc to close at 343.62.

Versus the Japanese Yen, the rupee appreciated by 0.50 paisa, or 0.29%, closing the session at 1.7140 against the previous 1.7190.

Against the Chinese Yuan, the rupee weakened by 4.42 paisa, or 0.11%, to close at 41.00 from 40.95.

The rupee edged up by 0.11 paisa against the Saudi Riyal to close at 74.07, while it rose by 0.52 paisa against the UAE Dirham to settle at 75.74.

On a cumulative basis, the rupee has appreciated against the US dollar by 5.60 rupees, or 2.01%, during the current fiscal year, and has gained 1.96 rupees, or 0.71%, so far in the calendar year.

In the money market, the benchmark 6-month KIBOR bid and offer rates eased by 2 basis points each to 11.55% and 11.80%, respectively.
