PKR remains nearly flat vs USD

March 25, 2026 (MLN):The Pakistani rupee (PKR) posted a slight gain of 1.19 paisa against the US dollar during Wednesday’s interbank session, closing at PKR 279.21 per USD compared to the previous close of 279.22.

During the session, the currency touched an intraday high (bid) of 279.25 and a low (ask) of 279.20.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 279.00 for buying and 280.25 for selling.

Against major currencies, the rupee showed a broadly positive trend. It appreciated by 20.93 paisa, or 0.06%, versus the Euro to settle at 323.80 compared to 324.01 previously. Against the British Pound, it gained 74.20 paisa, or 0.20%, to close at 374.06 from 374.80 a day earlier.

The local unit strengthened by 1.65 rupees, or 0.47%, against the Swiss franc, ending at 353.30. It also rose by 0.71 paisa, or 0.40%, against the Japanese Yen to close at 1.7547 compared to 1.7618 in the prior session.

Similarly, the rupee advanced by 8.10 paisa, or 0.20%, against the Chinese Yuan, settling at 40.47 from 40.55.

However, the rupee weakened slightly against some regional currencies, declining by 2.46 paisa against the Saudi Riyal to 74.40, and by 0.91 paisa, or 0.01%, against the UAE Dirham to close at 76.03.

On a broader scale, the rupee has appreciated by 4.55 against the US dollar, or 1.63%, during the current fiscal year. On a calendar year basis, it has gained 91.18 paisa, or 0.33%.

In the money market, the benchmark 6-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates edged up by 1 basis point to 11.19% and 11.44%, respectively.
