PKR posts slight gain against USD

July 30, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) recorded a marginal gain against the US dollar on Thursday, settling at PKR 277.81 in the interbank market compared with the previous close of PKR 277.82.

During the trading session, the rupee moved between an intraday high bid of PKR 277.85 and a low ask of PKR 277.80.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 278.80 for buying and PKR 278.85 for selling.

The local currency showed mixed performance against other major currencies. It weakened by PKR 1.49, or 0.47%, against the euro, which closed at PKR 318.14 compared with PKR 316.65 in the previous session.

Against the British pound, the rupee declined by PKR 1.36, or 0.37%, to settle at PKR 370.98 versus PKR 369.61 a day earlier.

The PKR also depreciated by PKR 1.32, or 0.39%, against the Swiss franc, closing at PKR 340.54.

Meanwhile, the rupee strengthened marginally against the Japanese yen, gaining 0.03 paisa, or 0.02%, to close at 1.6977 compared with 1.6980 previously.

Against the Chinese yuan, the local currency weakened by 4.78 paisa, or 0.12%, with the yuan closing at PKR 41.12 versus PKR 41.07.

The rupee appreciated by 1.64 paisa, or 0.02%, against the Saudi riyal to close at PKR 73.99, while it lost 0.56 paisa, or 0.01%, against the UAE dirham to settle at PKR 75.64.

On a cumulative basis, the PKR has gained 34.96 paisa, or 0.13%, against the US dollar during the current fiscal year. So far in the calendar year, the local currency has strengthened by PKR 2.31, or 0.83%, against the greenback.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates increased by 2 basis points to 11.53% and 11.78%, respectively.
