PKR posts mild gain against USD

June 16, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee edged up 0.84 paisa against the US dollar in Tuesday's interbank session, settling at PKR 278.30 per USD against the previous close of 278.31.

The currency traded between an intraday high (bid) of 278.35 and a low (ask) of 278.30. In the open market, exchange companies offered the dollar at 278.60 for buying and 279.50 for selling.

Against major currencies, the rupee gained 26.02 paisa (0.08%) versus the euro, closing at 322.73 from 322.99. It rose 40.09 paisa (0.11%) against the British pound to 373.36 from 373.76, and strengthened 76.08 paisa (0.22%) against the Swiss franc to end at 350.07.

The rupee appreciated 0.13 paisa (0.07%) against the Japanese yen to close at 1.7367 from 1.7380, and gained 0.71 paisa (0.02%) against the Chinese yuan to 41.18 from 41.19. Against the Saudi riyal, it firmed 0.03 paisa to 74.16, while it added 0.23 paisa against the UAE dirham to close at 75.77.

On a fiscal year-to-date basis, the rupee has appreciated 5.46 rupees (1.96%) against the dollar, and has gained 1.82 rupees (0.65%) since the start of the calendar year.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates declined 17 basis points to 11.94% and 12.19%, respectively.
