PKR posts fresh gain versus USD

June 10, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee continued its upward trajectory against the US dollar on Wednesday, posting another modest gain in the interbank market amid ongoing currency stability and improved market sentiment.

The rupee appreciated by 1.18 paisa during the session, with the dollar closing at PKR 278.36 compared to the previous day's closing level of PKR 278.37.

During intraday trading, the local currency remained largely stable, with the dollar moving within a narrow range and touching a high of PKR 278.40 and a low of PKR 278.35.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the greenback at PKR 278.25 for buying and PKR 279.40 for selling.

The latest gain further strengthened the rupee’s position against the US dollar, taking its cumulative appreciation in FY26 to PKR 5.40, reflecting a 1.94% improvement from the fiscal year's opening level.

On a calendar-year basis, the local currency has advanced by PKR 1.76, translating into a gain of 0.63%.

Against other major currencies, the rupee delivered a mixed performance. It weakened against the Euro, which closed at PKR 321.48, up from PKR 321.15 a day earlier. The British Pound also gained ground against the local unit, settling at PKR 372.57 compared to PKR 372.10 in the previous session.

Meanwhile, the rupee strengthened against several regional and international currencies. It appreciated against the Swiss Franc to close at PKR 348.41, improved against the Japanese Yen to PKR 1.7354, and gained against the Chinese Yuan, which settled at PKR 41.07.

The local unit also recorded marginal gains against Gulf currencies, ending at PKR 74.14 per Saudi Riyal and PKR 75.79 per UAE Dirham.

In the money market, benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates edged up by one basis point to 12.26% and 12.51%, respectively.

The rupee’s continued appreciation against the dollar shows sustained exchange-rate stability, with the currency maintaining its positive momentum despite fluctuations in other major global currencies.
