PKR maintains upward momentum in interbank session

February 25, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) posted a marginal gain of 1.03 paisa against the US dollar in Wednesday’s interbank session, closing at PKR 279.51 per USD compared to the previous close of 279.52.

During the session, the currency recorded an intraday high (bid) of 279.55 and a low (ask) of 279.50.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 279.70 for buying and 280.55 for selling.

Against major currencies, PKR depreciated 61.67 paisa or 0.19% versus the Euro to close at 329.81 compared to 329.19 previously. It also fell 1.50 rupees or 0.40% against the British Pound to 378.08 from 376.59.

The local unit declined by 1.22 rupees or 0.34% against the Swiss Franc to settle at 361.59. Against the Japanese Yen, it depreciated 0.22 paisa or 0.12% to 1.7922 from 1.7900.

PKR also weakened by 12.94 paisa or 0.32% against the Chinese Yuan to close at 40.70 compared to 40.58.

Meanwhile, the rupee gained 0.17 paisa against the Saudi Riyal to 74.50 and appreciated 0.08 paisa against the UAE Dirham to close at 76.10.

During the current fiscal year, PKR has appreciated by 4.25 rupees or 1.52% against the US dollar, while it has gained 61.02 paisa or 0.22% in the current calendar year.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates remained unchanged at 10.34% and 10.59%, respectively.
