PKR logs 255th straight session of gains against USD

October 07, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) extended its winning streak against the US dollar for the 255th consecutive session, appreciating by 3.31 paisa in Wednesday’s interbank trading to close at PKR 277.02 per USD, compared to the previous session’s close of PKR 277.05.

During the session, the rupee traded between an intraday high (bid) of PKR 277.10 and a low (ask) of PKR 277.00.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 277.25 for buying and PKR 280.10 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee strengthened by Rs1.33 or 0.43% against the Euro to close at PKR 310.10, compared to PKR 311.42 a day earlier.

The local currency also gained 1.61 paisa against the British Pound to settle at PKR 366.76, compared to PKR 366.78 previously.

Against the Swiss franc, PKR appreciated by 61.92 paisa or 0.19% to close at PKR 332.44.

However, the rupee weakened by 0.05 paisa or 0.03% against the Japanese Yen, closing at PKR 1.7522 versus PKR 1.7517 in the previous session.

Against the Chinese Yuan, PKR edged up by 0.50 paisa to close at PKR 41.32.

The rupee also strengthened against the Saudi Riyal by 1.86 paisa to PKR 73.79, while it gained 0.90 paisa against the UAE Dirham to settle at PKR 75.43.

During the current fiscal year, PKR has appreciated by Rs1.14 or 0.41% against the US dollar, while its gain since the start of the calendar year stands at Rs3.10 or 1.12%.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates edged down by 1 basis point to 12.13% and 12.38%, respectively.
