PKR inches higher versus USD

July 15, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) posted a marginal gain against the US dollar in the interbank market on Wednesday, appreciating by 1.22 paisa to close at 278.00 per USD, compared to the previous closing level of 278.01.

During the session, the currency traded between an intraday high (bid) of 278.05 and a low (ask) of 278.00.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at 278.80 for buying and 279.05 for selling.

Among other major currencies, the rupee weakened against the Euro, losing 77.84 paisa, with the exchange rate settling at 317.60 versus 316.82 in the previous session.

The local currency also declined against the British Pound by 28.95 paisa to 371.67, compared to 371.38 a day earlier.

Against the Swiss Franc, the rupee depreciated by Rs2.84, closing at 344.59.

The PKR slipped 0.10 paisa against the Japanese Yen to 1.7133, compared to the previous close of 1.7123.

In contrast, the rupee strengthened against the Chinese Yuan by 11.47 paisa, ending the session at 40.90 against 41.02 previously.

The domestic currency also eased by 2.24 paisa versus the Saudi Riyal to 74.05, while it recorded a marginal gain of 0.33 paisa against the UAE Dirham to settle at 75.70.

Since the start of the current fiscal year, the rupee has appreciated by 15.99 paisa against the US dollar. On a calendar-year basis, it has strengthened by Rs2.12, or 0.76%.

Meanwhile, in the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates edged down by 1 basis point to 11.39% and 11.64%, respectively.
