PKR holds steady against USD

March 26, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) remained largely flat against the US dollar in Thursday’s interbank session, settling marginally stronger at PKR 279.20 per USD compared to the previous close of 279.21.

During the session, the currency traded in a narrow range, recording an intraday high (bid) and low (ask) of 279.25.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 279.50 for buying and PKR 280.25 for selling.

Against major currencies, the rupee showed a stronger performance. It appreciated by PKR 1.37, or 0.42%, against the Euro to close at 322.44 compared to 323.80 in the previous session.

The local unit also gained PKR 1.66, or 0.44%, against the British Pound, settling at 372.40 versus 374.06 a day earlier.

Similarly, PKR strengthened by PKR 1.06, or 0.30%, against the Swiss franc to close at 352.24.

Against the Japanese Yen, the rupee rose by 0.47 paisa, or 0.27%, to 1.7500 compared to 1.7547 previously.

The rupee edged up by 3.05 paisa, or 0.08%, against the Chinese Yuan to settle at 40.44.

However, it posted a slight decline against the Saudi Riyal, weakening by 1.72 paisa, or 0.02%, to 74.42. Meanwhile, it inched up by 0.26 paisa against the UAE Dirham to close at 76.02.

On a broader basis, the rupee has appreciated by PKR 4.56, or 1.63%, against the US dollar so far in the current fiscal year, while it has gained 92.16 paisa, or 0.33%, during the ongoing calendar year.

In the money market, benchmark 6-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates increased by 3 basis points to 11.22% and 11.47%, respectively.
