PKR holds ground against USD, KIBOR climbs

October 13, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee edged up against the US dollar in the interbank market on Tuesday, appreciating by 1.18 paisa to close at PKR 276.96, compared with the previous session’s closing rate of PKR 276.97.

During the session, the local currency recorded an intraday high bid of 277.05 and a low ask of 276.95.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 277.50 for buying and PKR 280.25 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee posted mixed movements. It strengthened by 6.87 paisa, or 0.02%, against the euro, which closed at PKR 309.95 compared with PKR 310.02 in the previous session.

However, the local currency weakened by 5.35 paisa, or 0.01%, against the British pound, settling at PKR 366.70 versus PKR 366.64 a day earlier.

The rupee gained 19.40 paisa, or 0.06%, against the Swiss franc to close at PKR 332.59. Against the Japanese yen, it depreciated by 0.42 paisa, or 0.24%, to settle at PKR 1.7523 compared with PKR 1.7481 in the preceding session.

Against the Chinese yuan, the rupee appreciated by 0.85 paisa, or 0.02%, to close at PKR 41.38. It also gained 0.31 paisa against the Saudi riyal to settle at PKR 73.74, while losing 0.19 paisa against the UAE dirham to close at PKR 75.41.

Since the beginning of the current fiscal year, the rupee has strengthened by PKR 1.20, or 0.43%, against the US dollar. Its appreciation against the greenback has reached PKR 3.16, or 1.14%, since the start of the calendar year.

Meanwhile, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates (KIBOR) increased by 3 basis points, with the bid rate rising to 12.20% and the offer rate reaching 12.45%.
