PKR holds firm at 277.8 against USD

July 31, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee remained broadly stable against the US dollar in the interbank market on Friday, edging up 0.82 paisa to close at PKR 277.80 per dollar compared with Thursday’s settlement of PKR 277.81.

The local currency traded within a narrow range during the session, touching an intraday high of 277.95 on the bid side and a low of 277.80 on the ask side.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 278.70 for buying and PKR 278.85 for selling.

Against major international currencies, the rupee faced pressure. It weakened by Rs1.64, or 0.52%, against the euro to settle at PKR 319.78 from 318.14 a day earlier.

The rupee also lost Rs2.48, or 0.67%, against the British pound, closing at PKR 373.45 versus 370.98 in the previous session.

Against the Swiss franc, the local currency depreciated by Rs3.47, or 1.02%, to end at PKR 344.01.

The rupee weakened by 3.58 paisa, or 2.11%, against the Japanese yen, closing at PKR 1.7335 compared with 1.6977 previously.

Against the Chinese yuan, the PKR declined by 5.61 paisa, or 0.14%, to settle at PKR 41.17 from 41.12.

The local currency, however, gained 0.81 paisa, or 0.01%, against the Saudi riyal to close at PKR 73.98, while it appreciated 0.23 paisa against the UAE dirham to settle at PKR 75.64.

On a cumulative basis, the rupee has strengthened by 35.78 paisa, or 0.13%, against the US dollar during the current fiscal year. On a calendar-year basis, the PKR has appreciated by Rs2.32, or 0.83%.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates remained unchanged at 11.53% and 11.78%, respectively.
