PKR holds firm against USD, gains nearly 3 paisa

September 21, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee strengthened marginally against the US dollar in Monday’s interbank trading, appreciating by 2.94 paisa to close at PKR 277.22 per dollar, compared with the previous session’s close of PKR 277.25.

During the session, the rupee traded within a range of 277.20-277.35, with an intraday high (bid) of 277.35 and a low (ask) of 277.20.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 277.70 for buying and PKR 278.30 for selling.

Against major currencies, the rupee weakened by 7.71 paisa, or 0.02%, against the Euro, settling at PKR 318.35 versus PKR 318.27 in the previous session.

The local currency lost 55.66 paisa, or 0.15%, against the British Pound to close at PKR 371.12, compared with PKR 370.56 a day earlier.

Against the Swiss Franc, the rupee declined by 82.20 paisa, or 0.24%, to close at PKR 336.93.

The rupee weakened by 0.71 paisa, or 0.40%, against the Japanese Yen, closing at 1.7638 compared with 1.7567 in the previous session.

Against the Chinese Yuan, the local unit depreciated by 1.07 paisa, or 0.03%, to settle at 41.40 versus 41.39 a day ago.

Meanwhile, the rupee appreciated by 0.29 paisa against the Saudi Riyal to close at 73.80, while it strengthened by 0.08 paisa against the UAE Dirham to settle at 75.48.

During the current fiscal year, the rupee has gained 93.86 paisa, or 0.34%, against the US dollar. On a calendar-year basis, the local currency has appreciated by Rs2.90, or 1.05%.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates edged up by 2 basis points to 11.73% and 11.98%, respectively.
