PKR holds firm against USD

October 14, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee appreciated by 0.73 paisa against the US dollar in the interbank market on Wednesday, closing at PKR 276.95 compared to the previous close of PKR 276.96.

During the trading session, the dollar recorded an intraday high bid of PKR 277.00 and a low ask of PKR 276.95.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 277.20 for buying and PKR 280.00 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee posted mixed movements. It weakened by 10.26 paisa, or 0.03%, against the euro, which closed at PKR 310.05 compared to PKR 309.95 in the previous session.

The local currency also depreciated by 71.04 paisa, or 0.19%, against the British pound, settling at PKR 367.41 versus PKR 366.70 a day earlier.

Meanwhile, the rupee appreciated by 34.79 paisa, or 0.10%, against the Swiss franc to close at PKR 332.24. It also strengthened against the Japanese yen, gaining 0.45 paisa, or 0.26%, to settle at PKR 1.7478, compared to PKR 1.7523 in the preceding session.

Against the Chinese yuan, the rupee declined by 0.50 paisa, or 0.01%, to close at PKR 41.38. The local unit also weakened by 0.79 paisa, or 0.01%, against the Saudi riyal to PKR 73.75, while it lost 0.01 paisa against the UAE dirham to settle at PKR 75.41.

On a cumulative basis, the rupee has appreciated by PKR 1.21, or 0.44%, against the US dollar during the current fiscal year. Its gain against the greenback has reached PKR 3.17, or 1.14%, since the beginning of the calendar year.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates (KIBOR) declined by 3 basis points, with the bid rate settling at 12.17% and the offer rate at 12.42%.
