PKR gains slightly against USD

March 05, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) recorded a marginal gain of 1.16 paisa against the US dollar during Thursday’s interbank trading session, closing at PKR 279.41 per USD compared with the previous close of PKR 279.42.

During the session, the local currency touched an intraday high (bid) of PKR 279.45 and a low (ask) of PKR 279.40.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 278.50 for buying and PKR 280.45 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee strengthened by 30.69 paisa, or 0.09%, against the Euro to settle at PKR 323.99, compared with the previous closing of PKR 324.30.

The local unit also appreciated against the British Pound, gaining 71.41 paisa, or 0.19%, to close at PKR 372.40 versus PKR 373.11 in the prior session.

Similarly, the rupee rose by 15.23 paisa, or 0.04%, against the Swiss franc, ending the day at PKR 357.74.

Against the Japanese Yen, the rupee remained unchanged at PKR 1.7761.

However, the Pakistani currency weakened by 8.48 paisa, or 0.21%, against the Chinese Yuan to close at PKR 40.51 compared to PKR 40.43 a day earlier.

The rupee also slipped against Gulf currencies, declining by 0.39 paisa, or 0.01%, against the Saudi Riyal to PKR 74.42, while losing 0.93 paisa, or 0.01%, against the UAE Dirham to close at PKR 76.08.

Since the start of the current fiscal year, the rupee has appreciated by PKR 4.35, or 1.56%, against the US dollar. On a calendar year basis, it has gained 71.16 paisa, reflecting an increase of 0.25%.

Meanwhile, in the money market, the benchmark 6-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates rose by 10 basis points, reaching 10.51% and 10.76%, respectively.
