PKR gains nearly 3 paisa against USD

September 03, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee edged higher against the US dollar in the interbank market on Thursday, gaining 2.79 paisa to close at PKR 277.42 per dollar compared with the previous session’s closing rate of PKR 277.45.

During the session, the rupee traded between an intraday high bid of PKR 277.45 and a low ask of PKR 277.40.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 277.50 for buying and PKR 278.45 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee weakened 60.58 paisa, or 0.19%, against the Euro, which closed at PKR 321.92 versus PKR 321.32 in the previous session.

The local currency, however, appreciated 45.37 paisa, or 0.12%, against the British Pound, settling at PKR 374.45 compared with PKR 374.91 a day earlier.

The rupee lost PKR 2.11, or 0.62%, against the Swiss Franc to close at PKR 342.75.

Against the Japanese Yen, the local unit depreciated 3.08 paisa, or 1.77%, with the exchange rate reaching PKR 1.7679 from PKR 1.7371 previously.

The rupee also declined 2.25 paisa, or 0.05%, against the Chinese Yuan, closing at PKR 41.30 compared with PKR 41.27 a day earlier.

Meanwhile, the rupee strengthened 1.13 paisa, or 0.02%, against the Saudi Riyal to close at PKR 73.88, while it gained 0.65 paisa against the UAE Dirham to settle at PKR 75.53.

On a cumulative basis, the rupee has appreciated 73.79 paisa, or 0.27%, against the US dollar during the current fiscal year. So far in the current calendar year, the local currency has strengthened by PKR 2.70, or 0.97%, against the dollar.

In the money market, benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates increased by 2 basis points to 11.61% and 11.86%, respectively.
