PKR gains marginally in interbank trade

March 02, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) posted a marginal gain against the US dollar in Monday’s interbank trading, edging up by 1.08 paisa to close at 279.46 per USD, compared with the previous session’s 279.47.

During the trading day, the currency touched an intraday high (bid) of 279.60 and a low (ask) of 279.45.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 279.50 for buying and 280.50 for selling.

Against major international currencies, the rupee showed a mixed trend. It appreciated by 2.47 rupees, or 0.75%, versus the Euro to settle at 327.47, compared to 329.94 in the prior session.

The local unit also strengthened against the British Pound by 3.06 rupees, or 0.81%, closing at 373.57 from 376.63.

However, the rupee slipped against the Swiss franc, losing 29.02 paisa, to end at 361.71.

The domestic currency recorded gains against several other currencies. It advanced 1.11 paisa, or 0.62%, against the Japanese Yen to close at 1.7798 versus 1.7909 previously.

Against the Chinese Yuan, the rupee rose by 16.29 paisa, or 0.40%, settling at 40.60 compared to 40.77.

Similarly, the rupee appreciated 6.83 paisa, or 0.09%, against the Saudi Riyal to 74.45, and edged up 0.39 paisa, or 0.01%, versus the UAE Dirham to close at 76.09.

On a broader scale, the rupee has strengthened by 4.30 rupees, or 1.54%, against the US dollar during the ongoing fiscal year. On a calendar year-to-date basis, it has gained 66.22 paisa, reflecting a 0.24% increase.

Meanwhile, in the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates rose by 4 basis points to 10.40% and 10.65%, respectively.
