PKR gains ground against USD

September 01, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee strengthened slightly against the US dollar in Tuesday’s interbank trading, gaining 0.91 paisa to close at PKR 277.46 per dollar, compared with the previous session’s close of PKR 277.47.

During the session, the rupee traded within a range of 277.45 to 277.50, reflecting limited movement in the currency market.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 277.50 for buying and PKR 278.50 for selling.

The local currency also posted gains against major international currencies. It appreciated by 24.63 paisa, or 0.08%, against the Euro to close at PKR 321.61, compared with PKR 321.85 previously.

Against the British Pound, the rupee gained 24.81 paisa, or 0.07%, settling at PKR 375.56 versus PKR 375.81 a day earlier.

The PKR strengthened by 79.42 paisa, or 0.23%, against the Swiss Franc to close at PKR 342.29. Against the Japanese Yen, it gained 0.30 paisa, or 0.17%, to settle at PKR 1.7344 compared with PKR 1.7374.

The rupee also appreciated by 1.94 paisa against the Chinese Yuan, closing at PKR 41.27 from PKR 41.29.

Against regional currencies, the local unit gained 0.25 paisa against the Saudi Riyal to close at PKR 73.90, while it strengthened by 0.04 paisa against the UAE Dirham to settle at PKR 75.55.

On a cumulative basis, the rupee has appreciated 69.77 paisa, or 0.25%, against the US dollar during the current fiscal year. Since the start of the calendar year, the local currency has gained Rs2.66, equivalent to 0.96%.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates increased by 2 basis points to 11.58% and 11.83%, respectively.
