PKR firms up against dollar, settles at 277.3

September 15, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) strengthened marginally against the US dollar during Tuesday’s interbank trading session, gaining 1.11 paisa to close at PKR 277.30 per USD, compared with Monday’s closing rate of PKR 277.31.

The local currency traded within a narrow range during the session, with an intraday high (bid) of 277.35 and a low (ask) of 277.30.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 277.70 for buying and PKR 278.35 for selling.

The PKR also posted gains against several major currencies. It appreciated by 10.98 paisa against the Euro to close at PKR 319.83, compared with PKR 319.94 in the previous session.

Against the British Pound, the rupee gained 20.90 paisa, or 0.06%, settling at PKR 373.65 versus PKR 373.86 a day earlier.

The local unit, however, weakened by 73.19 paisa, or 0.22%, against the Swiss Franc to close at PKR 339.25.

Meanwhile, the rupee strengthened by 0.60 paisa, or 0.33%, against the Japanese Yen, closing at PKR 1.7885 compared with PKR 1.7945 previously.

Against the Chinese Yuan, the PKR gained 3.77 paisa, or 0.09%, to settle at PKR 41.31 from PKR 41.35.

The rupee also appreciated by 1.28 paisa against the Saudi Riyal to close at PKR 73.82, while it strengthened by 0.20 paisa against the UAE Dirham to settle at PKR 75.50.

On a cumulative basis, the PKR has appreciated by 85.92 paisa, or 0.31%, against the US dollar during the ongoing fiscal year. On a calendar-year basis, the local currency has gained Rs2.82, or 1.02%, against the greenback.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates remained unchanged at 11.74% and 11.99%, respectively.
