PKR firms up against USD, gains nearly 3 paisa

September 11, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee strengthened slightly against the US dollar in Friday’s interbank trading, appreciating by 2.94 paisa to settle at PKR 277.32 per USD.

The local currency had closed at PKR 277.35 per USD in the previous session.

During the trading session, the rupee moved between an intraday high (bid) of 277.50 and a low (ask) of 277.30.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 277.70 for buying and PKR 278.40 for selling.

The rupee also posted gains against major international currencies. It appreciated by Rs1.02 or 0.32% against the Euro to close at PKR 321.71, compared with PKR 322.73 previously.

Against the British Pound, the local currency strengthened by Rs1.11 or 0.29% to settle at PKR 374.64 versus PKR 375.74 a day earlier.

The PKR gained Rs1.74 or 0.51% against the Swiss Franc, closing at PKR 340.63.

Meanwhile, the rupee appreciated by 0.54 paisa or 0.30% against the Japanese Yen to close at PKR 1.8002, compared with PKR 1.8056 in the previous session.

Against the Chinese Yuan, the local unit gained 2.11 paisa or 0.05%, settling at PKR 41.34 from PKR 41.36.

The PKR also strengthened against the Saudi Riyal by 1.17 paisa or 0.02% to close at PKR 73.85, while it gained 1.53 paisa or 0.02% against the UAE Dirham to settle at PKR 75.50.

On a cumulative basis, the rupee has appreciated by 83.86 paisa or 0.30% against the US dollar during the current fiscal year. On a calendar-year basis, the local currency has gained Rs2.80 or 1.01%.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates increased by 5 basis points to 11.74% and 11.99%, respectively.
