PKR eyes stability with fresh gains

February 27, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) posted a marginal gain against the United States dollar in Friday’s interbank trading, appreciating by 3.02 paisa, to close at 279.47 per dollar compared to the previous session’s close of 279.50.

During the trading session, the local currency touched an intraday high (bid) of 279.60 and a low (ask) of 279.45.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 279.70 for buying and 280.55 for selling.

Among other major currencies, the rupee strengthened by 7.76 paisa, against the Euro to settle at 329.94, down from 330.02 a day earlier.

It also advanced notably against the British Pound, gaining 1.77 rupees, or 0.47%, to close at 376.63 compared to 378.40 in the previous session.

The domestic unit improved by 41.35 paisa, or 0.11%, against the Swiss franc to finish at 361.42.

However, it edged lower versus the Japanese yen, slipping 0.05 paisa, or 0.03%, to 1.7909 from 1.7904.

Against the Chinese yuan, the rupee gained 9.33 paisa, or 0.23%, closing at 40.77 compared to 40.86 previously. It also rose 0.41 paisa, or 0.01%, against the Saudi riyal to 74.52.

Meanwhile, the rupee marginally weakened by 0.11 paisa, or 0.00%, against the United Arab Emirates dirham, settling at 76.10.

On a cumulative basis, the rupee has appreciated 4.29 rupees, or 1.54%, against the US dollar during the ongoing fiscal year.

On a calendar year basis, it has strengthened by 65.14 paisa, or 0.23%.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates rose by 1 basis point each, reaching 10.36% and 10.61%, respectively.
