PKR extends winning streak, gains nearly 3 paisa against USD

August 31, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee extended its winning streak against the US dollar on Monday, appreciating by 2.87 paisa in the interbank market to close at PKR 277.47, up from Friday's PKR 277.50.

During intraday trading, the dollar moved between a high of 277.65 and a low of 277.45. In the open market, exchange companies quoted the greenback at PKR 278.00 for buying and PKR 278.55 for selling.

The rupee also strengthened against other major currencies. It gained Rs1.31 (0.41%) against the Euro to close at 321.85, compared to 323.16 previously.

Against the British Pound, the local currency rose Rs1.22 (0.32%) to settle at 375.81, up from 377.03 a day earlier.

The rupee added Rs2.00 (0.58%) against the Swiss Franc to close at 343.09, while it edged up 0.20 paisa (0.11%) against the Japanese Yen to 1.7374 from 1.7394.

Against the Chinese Yuan, the currency held largely steady, gaining 0.06 paisa to close at 41.29.

In regional currencies, the rupee firmed up by 0.76 paisa against the Saudi Riyal to 73.90 and by 0.78 paisa against the UAE Dirham to close at 75.55.

On a cumulative basis, the rupee has appreciated by 68.86 paisa (0.25%) against the dollar so far in the current fiscal year, and by Rs2.65 (0.96%) since the start of the calendar year.

In the money market, the benchmark 6-month KIBOR bid and offer rates remained unchanged at 11.56% and 11.81%, respectively.
