PKR extends gains, closes at 277.66 against USD

August 12, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee edged higher against the US dollar on Wednesday, gaining 1.10 paisa in the interbank market to close at PKR 277.66 per dollar, compared with Tuesday’s closing rate of PKR 277.67.

During the session, the rupee traded within a narrow range, reaching an intraday high of 277.70 and a low of 277.65.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 278.20 for buying and PKR 278.70 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee weakened 11.23 paisa against the euro, which closed at PKR 320.35 compared with PKR 320.24 previously.

The local currency also fell 27.67 paisa, or 0.07%, against the British pound to settle at PKR 375.15 from PKR 374.87.

The rupee, however, strengthened 51.92 paisa, or 0.15%, against the Swiss franc to close at PKR 341.78. Its value against the Japanese yen remained unchanged at PKR 1.7427.

Against the Chinese yuan, the rupee declined 0.51 paisa to close at PKR 41.16, while it weakened 0.20 paisa against the Saudi riyal to PKR 73.95.

The local unit gained 0.50 paisa against the UAE dirham, closing at PKR 75.60.

On a cumulative basis, the rupee has appreciated 50.09 paisa, or 0.18%, against the US dollar during the current fiscal year. Since the start of the calendar year, the local currency has strengthened by PKR 2.46, or 0.89%.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates remained unchanged at 11.50% and 11.75%, respectively.
