PKR extends gains against USD, closes at 276.82

October 26, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee strengthened against the US dollar on Monday, appreciating by 2.86 paisa in the interbank market to settle at PKR 276.82, compared with the previous close of PKR 276.85.

During the session, the rupee recorded an intraday bid and ask rate of PKR 276.80.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 277.20 for buying and PKR 280.00 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the local unit posted broad-based gains, particularly against the euro and Swiss franc.

The rupee appreciated by Rs1.36, or 0.44%, against the euro, closing at PKR 309.78 compared with PKR 311.14 in the previous session.

Similarly, it strengthened by 82.73 paisa, or 0.22%, against the British pound to settle at PKR 370.39, down from PKR 371.22 a day earlier.

Against the Swiss franc, the domestic currency gained Rs1.10, or 0.33%, to close at PKR 336.18.

However, the rupee weakened against the Japanese yen, losing 0.31 paisa, or 0.18%, to settle at PKR 1.7653 compared with PKR 1.7622 in the previous session.

It also depreciated by 0.94 paisa against the Chinese yuan, closing at PKR 41.50 versus PKR 41.49 previously.

Against Gulf currencies, the rupee appreciated by 5.77 paisa, or 0.08%, against the Saudi riyal to PKR 73.75. It also gained 0.57 paisa against the UAE dirham, closing at PKR 75.38.

On a cumulative basis, the rupee has gained Rs1.34, or 0.48%, against the US dollar during the current fiscal year. Its appreciation since the beginning of the calendar year stands at Rs3.30, or 1.19%.

Meanwhile, in the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates (KIBOR) increased by 4 basis points (bps), with the bid rate reaching 12.20% and the offer rate settling at 12.45%.
