PKR extends gains against USD

June 29, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee extended gains against the US dollar in Monday's interbank session, appreciating 2.94 paisa or 0.01% to close at PKR 278.17 per USD, against the prior session's close of PKR 278.20.

Intraday trading saw the currency touch a high of 278.55 on the bid side and a low of 278.15 on the ask side. In the open market, exchange companies offered the greenback at 278.50 for buying and 279.30 for selling.

The rupee's performance against other major currencies, however, remained under pressure. It weakened 1.39 rupees or 0.44% against the Euro to close at 317.24, while shedding 68.46 paisa or 0.19% against the British Pound to settle at 367.62.

The local unit also lost ground against the Swiss franc, declining 1.30 rupees or 0.38% to 343.98, and slipped 6.31 paisa or 0.15% against the Chinese Yuan to 40.95.

Against select currencies, the rupee held its ground, firming 0.15 paisa or 0.09% against the Japanese Yen to close at 1.7190, gaining 5.32 paisa or 0.07% against the Saudi Riyal to 74.07, and edging up 0.59 paisa or 0.01% against the UAE Dirham to 75.74.

The rupee's fiscal-year performance against the dollar remained firm, with the currency gaining 5.59 rupees or 2.01% since the fiscal year's opening, while advancing 1.95 rupees or 0.70% on a calendar year-to-date basis.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates declined seven basis points each to 11.57% and 11.82%, respectively.
