PKR extends appreciation streak against USD to 250 sessions

September 30, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) extended its appreciation streak against the US dollar to 250 consecutive sessions on Wednesday, gaining 4.3106 rupees or 1.56% over the period.

In Wednesday’s interbank trading, the rupee strengthened by 0.70 paisa against the dollar to close at PKR 277.11, compared with the previous session’s close of PKR 277.12.

During the session, the currency traded between an intraday high (bid) of 277.10 and a low (ask) of 277.10.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 277.25 for buying and PKR 278.15 for selling.

Against major international currencies, the PKR weakened by 42.16 paisa or 0.13% against the Euro, settling at 314.64 versus 314.21 previously.

The local currency lost Rs1.18 or 0.32% against the British Pound, closing at 367.83 compared with 366.65 a day earlier.

Against the Swiss Franc, the rupee depreciated by 54.96 paisa or 0.17% to close at 332.61.

The PKR also declined by 0.51 paisa or 0.29% against the Japanese Yen, ending at 1.7657 compared with 1.7606 in the previous session.

Meanwhile, the rupee gained 0.63 paisa or 0.02% against the Chinese Yuan, closing at 41.33 versus 41.34.

Against the Saudi Riyal, the local unit appreciated by 0.78 paisa to close at 73.80, while it strengthened by 0.40 paisa against the UAE Dirham to settle at 75.45.

On a fiscal-year-to-date basis, the PKR has appreciated by Rs1.05 or 0.38% against the US dollar, while its calendar-year-to-date gain stands at Rs3.01 or 1.09%.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates increased by 3 basis points to 11.83% and 12.08%, respectively.
