PKR ends higher against USD

August 05, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee extended its gains against the US dollar on Wednesday, appreciating marginally in the interbank market to close at PKR 277.75 per USD, supported by stable market activity.

During the trading session, the local currency moved within a range of PKR 277.80 at its intraday high (bid) and PKR 277.75 at its intraday low (ask).

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 278.30 for buying and PKR 278.80 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee delivered a mixed performance. It weakened by 62.38 paisa, or 0.20%, against the euro to close at PKR 320.32, while it lost 53.79 paisa, or 0.14%, versus the British pound to settle at PKR 373.73.

The local unit, however, strengthened by 5.84 paisa, or 0.02%, against the Swiss franc, ending the session at PKR 342.88. It also appreciated by 0.07 paisa, or 0.04%, against the Japanese yen to close at PKR 1.7595.

Meanwhile, the rupee slipped against regional and Gulf currencies. It declined by 1.88 paisa, or 0.05%, against the Chinese yuan to PKR 41.15, eased by 0.24 paisa against the Saudi riyal to PKR 73.95, and fell by 0.27 paisa against the UAE dirham to PKR 75.63.

So far in the current fiscal year, the rupee has strengthened by 40.96 paisa, or 0.15%, against the US dollar. On a calendar-year basis, the local currency has gained PKR 2.37, representing an appreciation of 0.85%.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates eased by one basis point to 11.50% and 11.75%, respectively.
