PKR edges up against USD, closes at 276.76

October 29, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) posted a marginal gain against the US dollar in the interbank market on Thursday, appreciating by 1.18 paisa to settle at PKR 276.76 per dollar, compared to the previous closing rate of PKR 276.77.

During the session, the dollar recorded an intraday bid of PKR 276.75 and an ask of PKR 276.70.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at PKR 277.30 for buying and PKR 280.00 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the rupee weakened against most currencies. It depreciated by 42.96 paisa, or 0.14%, against the euro to close at PKR 308.28, compared to PKR 307.86 in the previous session.

Similarly, the local currency fell by 59.31 paisa, or 0.16%, against the British pound to settle at PKR 368.45, compared to PKR 367.86 a day earlier. Against the Swiss franc, it declined by 79.07 paisa, closing at PKR 334.17.

However, the rupee strengthened against the Japanese yen, gaining 0.18 paisa, or 0.10%, to close at PKR 1.7529, compared to PKR 1.7547 in the previous session.

Against the Chinese yuan, the local currency depreciated by 3.04 paisa, or 0.07%, to settle at PKR 41.55, up from PKR 41.52.

The rupee also appreciated marginally against the Saudi riyal by 0.32 paisa to close at PKR 73.75. In contrast, it weakened by 0.29 paisa against the UAE dirham to settle at PKR 75.36.

During the current fiscal year, the rupee has appreciated by PKR 1.40, or 0.51%, against the US dollar. Its cumulative gain against the greenback has reached PKR 3.36, or 1.21%, since the beginning of the calendar year.

Meanwhile, in the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates (KIBOR) increased by 18 basis points to 12.39% and 12.64%, respectively.
