PKR edges up 3 paisa against USD to 277.8

July 29, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee edged higher against the US dollar in the interbank market on Wednesday, gaining 3.05 paisa to settle at PKR 277.82 per USD, compared with the previous close of PKR 277.85.

During the trading session, the rupee touched an intraday high bid of 277.85 and a low ask of 277.80.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 278.70 for buying and PKR 278.90 for selling.

Against major international currencies, the rupee largely weakened during the session.

The local currency depreciated by 72.94 paisa, or 0.23%, against the Euro, which closed at PKR 316.65 versus PKR 315.92 in the previous session.

Against the British Pound, the rupee slipped 4.28 paisa, to close at PKR 369.61 compared with PKR 369.57 a day earlier.

The rupee fell 16.98 paisa, or 0.05%, against the Swiss Franc, ending the session at PKR 339.22.

Against the Japanese Yen, the local currency weakened by 0.21 paisa, or 0.12%, with the exchange rate moving to PKR 1.6980 from PKR 1.6959.

The rupee also declined 1.12 paisa, or 0.03%, against the Chinese Yuan, closing at PKR 41.07 compared with PKR 41.06 previously.

Meanwhile, the rupee strengthened slightly against regional currencies. It appreciated 0.42 paisa, against the Saudi Riyal to close at PKR 74.01.

The local currency also gained 1.65 paisa, against the UAE Dirham, ending at PKR 75.64.

On a broader basis, the rupee has gained 33.97 paisa, or 0.12%, against the US dollar during the current fiscal year. So far in the current calendar year, the local currency has appreciated by PKR 2.30, or 0.83%, against the greenback.

Meanwhile, rates in the money market moved slightly higher, with the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates increasing by 2 basis points to 11.51% and 11.76%, respectively.
