PKR edges higher against USD

January 29, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) rose by 1.03 paisa against the US dollar in Thursday's interbank session to settle the trade at PKR 279.80 per USD, compared to previous closing of 279.81.

Throughout the day, the currency saw an intraday high (bid) of 280.00 and a low (ask) of 280.85.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 280.30 for buying and 280.85 for selling.

In comparison to major currencies, PKR increased 37.61 paisa or 0.11% against the Euro, closing at 335.23 compared to the previous value of 335.61.

Against the British Pound, PKR decreased by 1.12 rupees or 0.29% to 387.22 compared to 386.10 a day ago.

The local unit strengthened 53.90 paisa or 0.15% against Swiss franc to close at 365.35.

Against the Japanese Yen, PKR's value increased 0.76 paisa or 0.41% to close the session at 1.8264 versus 1.8340 a day ago.

Pakistani Rupee appreciated 1.10 paisa or 0.03% against Chinese Yuan to close at 40.28 from 40.29.

The local currency increased by 0.97 paisa or 0.01% against Saudi Riyal to 74.60. While it appreciated by 0.39 paisa or 0.01% against the U.A.E Dirham to close at 76.18.

During the current fiscal year, PKR has appreciated against the US Dollar by 3.96 rupees or 1.42%. While it has strengthened 32.12 paisa or 0.11% so far this calendar year.

In the Money Market, the benchmark 6 Month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates inched up by 1bps to 10.24% and 10.49%.
