PKR continues to strengthen against greenback

August 20, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani Rupee (PKR) gained 3.23 paisa, or 0.01%, against the US Dollar in Thursday's interbank session, closing at PKR 277.57 per USD, compared with the previous session's closing of PKR 277.60.

During the session, the local currency traded within a range of PKR 277.55 to PKR 277.60 against the greenback.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US Dollar at PKR 278.00 for buying and PKR 278.65 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the PKR posted a mixed performance.

The local currency weakened against the Euro by Rs2.56, or 0.79%, to settle at PKR 324.55, compared to PKR 321.99 in the previous session.

Similarly, the PKR depreciated by Rs2.16, or 0.57%, against the British Pound, closing at PKR 378.41 versus PKR 376.25 a day earlier.

Against the Swiss Franc, the Rupee lost Rs5.30, or 1.55%, to close at PKR 347.68.

The PKR also declined by 0.83 paisa, or 0.48%, against the Japanese Yen, closing at PKR 1.7520 compared to PKR 1.7437 in the previous session.

Meanwhile, the local unit depreciated by 8.28 paisa, or 0.20%, against the Chinese Yuan, settling at PKR 41.28 versus PKR 41.20.

On the other hand, the Rupee gained 1.06 paisa against the Saudi Riyal to close at PKR 73.93, while it strengthened by 0.67 paisa against the UAE Dirham, ending the session at PKR 75.58.
