PKR closes steady with minor gain vs USD

April 10, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) appreciated by 1.39 paisa against the US dollar during Friday’s interbank session, closing at PKR 279.01 per USD compared to the previous close of 279.02.

Throughout the trading day, the currency recorded an intraday high (bid) of 279.15 and a low (ask) of 279.00.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the dollar at 279.00 for buying and 280.05 for selling.

Against major global currencies, the rupee showed mixed performance. It weakened by 44.42 paisa (0.14%) against the Euro to close at 325.86 versus 325.41 in the previous session.

Against the British Pound, the rupee declined by 56.73 paisa (0.15%) to 374.21 compared to 373.64 a day earlier.

The local currency also lost 22.79 paisa (0.06%) against the Swiss franc, settling at 352.93. However, it gained 0.41 paisa (0.23%) against the Japanese yen, closing at 1.7510 compared to 1.7551 previously.

Against the Chinese yuan, the rupee edged down by 1.47 paisa (0.04%) to 40.82, while it strengthened against Gulf currencies, rising 0.56 paisa versus the Saudi riyal to 74.35 and 1.31 paisa against the UAE dirham to 75.96.

On a broader scale, the rupee has appreciated by PKR 4.75 (1.70%) against the US dollar during the current fiscal year and gained PKR 1.11 (0.40%) so far in the calendar year.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates edged down by 1 basis point to 11.31% and 11.56% respectively.
