PKR closes slightly higher vs USD

July 08, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee posted a slight gain against the US dollar in the interbank market on Wednesday, appreciating by 0.77 paisa to close at PKR 278.15 per dollar, compared with the previous session's closing rate of PKR 278.16.

During the trading session, the rupee touched an intraday high (bid) of PKR 278.15 and a low (ask) of PKR 278.05 against the greenback.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 278.25 for buying and PKR 279.15 for selling.

Against other major currencies, the local unit came under pressure. The rupee weakened by 61.72 paisa, or 0.19%, against the Euro to settle at PKR 317.54, compared with PKR 316.92 in the previous session.

The British Pound recorded a sharper increase against the rupee, with the local currency losing PKR 3.33, or 0.90%, to close at PKR 371.35 from PKR 368.02.

The rupee also depreciated against the Swiss Franc, falling by PKR 1.85, or 0.54%, to end the day at PKR 345.47.

Against the Japanese Yen, the local currency declined by 1.09 paisa, or 0.64%, closing at PKR 1.7249 versus PKR 1.7140 a day earlier.

Meanwhile, the rupee edged up against the Chinese Yuan, gaining 0.66 paisa, to finish at PKR 40.99 from PKR 41.00.

The local currency slipped by 1.38 paisa against the Saudi Riyal to close at PKR 74.08, while it registered a marginal improvement of 0.21 paisa against the UAE Dirham, ending the session at PKR 75.74.

Since the start of the current fiscal year, the rupee has appreciated by 0.77 paisa against the US dollar. On a calendar-year basis, it has strengthened by PKR 1.97, showing a gain of 0.71%.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates eased by one basis point each to 11.38% and 11.63%, respectively.
