PKR closes firmer against USD

July 22, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee extended its stability in the interbank market on Wednesday, edging up 0.71 paisa against the US dollar to close at PKR 277.91 per dollar after ending the previous session at PKR 277.92.

During the trading session, the local currency touched an intraday high of PKR 277.95 and a low of PKR 277.90 against the greenback.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 278.75 for buying and PKR 280.00 for selling.

The rupee also recorded gains against most major international currencies. It appreciated by 48.06 paisa (0.15%) against the Euro to settle at PKR 317.02, strengthened by Rs1.79 (0.48%) versus the British Pound to PKR 371.75, and advanced by 95.94 paisa (0.28%) against the Swiss Franc to PKR 342.17.

Against Asian currencies, the local unit gained 0.40 paisa (0.23%) against the Japanese Yen to close at PKR 1.7047, while it rose 5.62 paisa (0.14%) against the Chinese Yuan to PKR 41.02.

However, the rupee slipped 2.18 paisa (0.03%) against the Saudi Riyal to PKR 74.05, whereas it edged up 0.19 paisa against the UAE Dirham to settle at PKR 75.67.

So far in the current fiscal year, the rupee has appreciated by 24.75 paisa (0.09%) against the US dollar. On a calendar-year basis, the local currency has strengthened by Rs2.21, reflecting a gain of 0.79%.

Meanwhile, in the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates increased by 2 basis points to 11.42% and 11.67%, respectively.
