November 07, 2025 (MLN): The Pakistan Banks Association (PBA), in collaboration with the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), has introduced a nationwide Fraud Awareness Campaign to educate the public about protecting themselves from the increasing threat of digital financial frauds and scams.
With the rapid digitalisation of the financial sector,
fraudsters are employing more sophisticated tactics such as fake phone calls,
phishing emails and text messages and fraudulent websites to deceive
unsuspecting customers into revealing their confidential banking information.
The campaign aims to empower individuals with the
knowledge and awareness needed to safeguard their personal and financial data.
It highlights important safety precautions, including
never sharing personal details, bank account information, card numbers, or
one-time passwords (OTPs) with anyone; avoiding suspicious links or websites
that mimic official bank portals; verifying all communications from legitimate
sources; and promptly reporting any suspicious activity to their respective
banks or authorities.
According to the PBA, this initiative shows the
collective commitment of Pakistan’s banking industry to strengthening
cybersecurity, promoting safe banking practices, and enhancing public
confidence in the country’s digital financial ecosystem.
The campaign, which begins today, will run across
television, radio, and digital platforms, using simple and meaningful messaging
to raise awareness about the risks of digital fraud.
PBA emphasized that safe banking is a shared responsibility between institutions and customers. By spreading awareness and encouraging vigilance, the banking sector hopes to significantly reduce the number of fraud incidents and ensure that customers can benefit from digital financial services securely and confidently.
