August 03, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistan Credit Rating Agency (PACRA) has raised the asset manager rating of AWT Investments Limited from AM2+ to AM2++, with a stable outlook, citing sustained growth in assets under management (AUM), a strategic emphasis on the retail segment, a more granular investor base, and stronger fund performance.

PACRA noted that the AMC's AUM growth was underpinned by its focus on expanding the retail franchise and strengthening digital capabilities under experienced leadership.

The company widened its retail footprint through greater brand visibility and investor awareness campaigns across major cities, with retail investors making up roughly 45% of its investor base as of 9MFY26 a figure well above larger industry players.

As AUM expanded, concentration among the top 10 investors eased to around 27%, pointing to improved granularity and reduced concentration risk.

The rating agency further highlighted that the AMC's digital infrastructure was upgraded during FY26 through mobile application enhancements, the introduction of a digital account-opening facility, and greater automation of customer transactions steps expected to improve customer convenience, operational efficiency, and support scalable retail expansion over the long term.

AWT Investments held an overall industry market share of about 2%, rising to roughly 3% within the Islamic asset-management segment.

Industry-wide AUM stood at Rs4.3tr as of 9MFY26, up from Rs3.8tr in the same period last year, with the money market category holding the largest share at 56%, followed by income at 25% and equity at 19%.

During FY26, the AMC also completed conversion of its conventional product suite into Shariah-compliant offerings, reinforcing its position in the Islamic segment.

PACRA observed that the majority of AWT's funds outperformed their respective benchmarks, though the AWT Islamic Income Fund continues to account for a large share of total AUM, making greater diversification across fund categories desirable.

The company's presence in the pension-fund market remains modest, and PACRA said sustained growth in the voluntary pension scheme (VPS) segment along with improved pension-market share would strengthen its competitive standing.

On the financial side, the management fee rose sharply by 47% to Rs321mn in 9MFY26, compared with Rs219mn in the corresponding period last year.

Net profit, however, dipped to Rs124mn from Rs146mn a year earlier, mainly on account of higher expenses and lower investment income.

The equity base grew to Rs982mn by the end of 9MFY26 from Rs858mn in FY25, with PACRA noting that sponsor support through fresh equity injections, alongside internally generated profits, remains critical to this growth.

Looking ahead, the AMC intends to consolidate its market position through sustained fund performance, stronger brand visibility, deeper investor engagement, and an expanded sales and distribution network across key cities.

Its strategy also includes key senior-management appointments and further technology upgrades to support AUM growth and business scalability.

PACRA added that the proposed acquisition of an 80% stake in the AMC by Fauji Foundation, subject to necessary approvals, is expected to strengthen its sponsorship profile and support sustainable AUM growth through enhanced financial and institutional backing.

PACRA said the rating remains contingent on the AMC's ability to continue strengthening its market position, with stability in key human resources and the success of AUM-growth initiatives remaining critical factors going forward.
