Overseas investors repatriate $261m in July 2026

August 20, 2026 (MLN): Foreign investors' repatriation of profit
and dividend stood at $261.4m in July 2026, rising 72.66% on a month-on-month
(MoM) basis compared with $151.4m in June 2026, but down 11.39% on a
year-on-year (YoY) basis against $295m repatriated in the same month last year,
the latest data issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) revealed.
Break-up of the data revealed that payments against
foreign direct investment (FDI) made up the bulk of the outflow, clocking in at
$255m in July 2026 up 81.36% MoM from
$140.6m in June 2026, but down 13.50% YoY from $294.8m in July 2025.
Outflows against foreign portfolio investment (FPI), on
the other hand, stood at $6.3m in July 2026, down 41.67% MoM from $10.8m in
June 2026, but sharply higher YoY from a negligible $0.2m in July 2025.
Sector-wise
A sector-wise breakup showed that the Power sector led
all outflows with $73.1m repatriated in July 2026, up 147.80% MoM from $29.5m
in June 2026, and up a marginal 2.52% YoY from $71.3m in July 2025.
The Financial Business sector followed with $61.9m
repatriated during the month, up sharply from $11.3m in June 2026, though down
3.73% YoY from $64.3m in July 2025.
The Communications sector saw outflows jump to $24m in
July 2026, up from just $1.4m in June 2026, and up 203.80% YoY from $7.9m in
July 2025.
The Tobacco & Cigarettes sector posted $14.6m in
repatriation, up 124.62% MoM from $6.5m in June 2026, and up 18.70% YoY from
$12.3m in July 2025.
The Cement sector recorded $13m in outflows during the
month, up from a negligible base in both June 2026 and July 2025.
Country-wise
Country-wise data showed that China remained the single
largest recipient of repatriated profits in July 2026 at $114.1m, up 3.8x MoM
from $30.2m in June 2026, and up 28.49% YoY from $88.8m in July 2025.
The United Kingdom followed with $47.2m repatriated
during the month, up 32.58% MoM from $35.6m in June 2026, though down 38.38%
YoY from $76.6m in July 2025.
Netherlands ranked third, with outflows of $29.8m sharply higher MoM from a near-nil $0.6m in
June 2026, and up 47.52% YoY from $20.2m in July 2025.
The United States saw repatriation of $26.4m in July
2026, up 234.18% MoM from $7.9m in June 2026, and up 325.81% YoY from $6.2m in
July 2025.
UAE rounded out the top five with $14.7m repatriated
during the month, up 15.75% MoM from $12.7m in June 2026, but down 66.21% YoY
from $43.5m in July 2025.
