August 10, 2026 (MLN): Foreign companies affiliated with the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) have invested more than $23bn in Pakistan over the past decade, exceeding the country’s cumulative net foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows of $21bn during the same period.

The figures were disclosed in OICCI’s Members’ Contribution to the Economy 2025 report released on Monday, highlighting the continued investment, expansion and reinvestment by foreign-invested companies operating in Pakistan.

According to the report, OICCI member companies made a substantial contribution to the national economy during FY2025. Their combined gross revenue stood at Rs13.1tr, while total assets reached Rs42tr.

The companies also invested Rs615bn in capital expenditure (CAPEX) and contributed Rs3.2tr to government levies, reinforcing their position among the country’s major investors, taxpayers and contributors to economic activity.

The report also examined the performance of OICCI members listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), covering 51 companies.

Profit Before Tax (PBT) of these listed companies posted a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 26% in rupee terms between 2021 and 2025, compared with 35% in the preceding reporting period.

OICCI attributed the moderation partly to exchange rate movements and the higher base effect. In dollar terms, PBT recorded a CAGR of 11% during the period.

Meanwhile, turnover of the listed OICCI members grew at a CAGR of 21% in rupee terms and 6% in dollar terms, reflecting continued business expansion and profitability despite challenging macroeconomic conditions.

The report also highlighted the wide-ranging sectoral contribution of OICCI members.

The Oil, Gas and Energy sector accounted for 36% of total government levies paid by OICCI member companies. The Banking, Insurance, Finance and Leasing sector represented 75.6% of total assets and 25% of total turnover.

The Telecommunications sector accounted for 33% of overall capital expenditure, making it the largest contributor to OICCI members’ CAPEX.

Significant contributions were also recorded by companies operating in Food and Consumer Products, Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals and Healthcare, Automobiles, Engineering, Shipping and Airlines, among other sectors.

OICCI Secretary General M. Abdul Aleem said the findings demonstrate continued investor confidence in Pakistan’s long-term economic prospects.

He noted that OICCI members had continued to reinvest, expand their businesses and contribute to the economy despite difficult economic conditions.

Aleem said the more than $23bn invested by OICCI members over the past decade represented a strong vote of confidence in Pakistan’s future.

He added that greater policy consistency, regulatory predictability and a more enabling business environment could help foreign investors further contribute to economic growth, exports, innovation and employment.
